Supporting a “Requirement Circle” Concept

Purpose: The purpose of these ideas is to develop measurable objectives for Scouts to achieve in order for their elected/assigned leadership position to be qualified for rank advancement.  In addition by satisfying the position requirements the Troop and boy grow.

Basis: The basis of these metrics will be uniformed participation and Scout Spirit as follows:

While serving, a Boy Scout Leader must:

  • Be in full uniform* at all regular Scout Meetings/Troop outings (100%) unless waived by the Scout Master for a certain meeting

  • Be present at and participate in 75% of the Scout meetings (Scribe’s Attendance Sheet)

  • Be present for and participate in 50% of the Troop campouts or outdoor activities.

  • Be in good standing with the Troop and be qualified at the end of term by the Scoutmaster (Yes or No).

  • Be advancing by demonstrating the completion of Merit Badge requirements (Advancement Sheet)

  • Fulfill the requirements of the leadership position as certified by the Scout Master who gives a recognition certificate

Evaluator: Scout Master

Evaluation: Scout Master checks the sign in Uniform Sheet and Outdoor Activities Log and certifies that a Scout’s leadership position be entered.  This information will be entered into Troop Master by the Advancement Coordinator.

Options:  If a Scout is not able to meet all of these requirements due to competing activities or other situations, he will be able to:

  • Extend his term as a leader with Scout Master’s approval

  • Apply for another leadership position in another part of the year

  • Accept and complete a leadership project approved by the committee and assigned by the Scout Master
